Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today we are out of school to think back about the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. According to a Weekly Reader article we read in class, he is famous for his "I Have a Dream" speech of 1963. King worked to change laws by giving speeches and leading peaceful marches. He wanted equal rights for all people. Thanks to King and other leaders, Congress passed civil rights laws. Those laws make sure that Americans have equal rights! This means that people will get treated the same way and will be allowed to do the same things.
